NIK Software Bundle Purchase

So, you read a professionals blog (David Ziser's) and you decide after hours of searching that you will spend your dollars on some genuine professional level software because you can get a discount of 25% from the bundle.

You then login to said website and after the coupon code you only have to pay $239.96USD.

Fantastic you say! So you proceed to checkout, yep, enter details. Great they have paypal support so you enter valid shipping details, login to paypal, proceed with request and all looks good.

Well, things change from there. NIK says I have to use the local distributer. Thats ok I say and I enter the site, enter my information then try to use the coupon code and BAM! Code not enabled!

No matter how hard I try I cannot get the discount I am after to get the price down to what I am willing to pay.

I will send an email to NIK and hope this can be rectified as I believe a coupon code should be International and not restricted. If it is restricted these companies need to inform us decision makers that hey, you can 25% off with this code, but only if you are in the US.

This post sounds negative to NIK and it's not supposed to be, it's supposed to highlight the International world and how things need to be clear to a purchaser so that the seller does not frustrate or loose a sale to a potential customer.

I look forward to what NIK Software have to say.

Fly On Wood

I finally made the plunge and purchased Adobe Lightroom 3 full edition as well as getting Scott Kelby's excellent resource Lightroom 3 book for digital photographers

This has increased the quality of my photographic output by putting those finishing touches onto an image to increase its quality to the viewer (if my compositions can be considered good quality that is!).

Now if I can only find time to get more photographic images! If you have any recommended photographic blogs/rss feeds/journals, don't hesitate to drop a note.

D90 Books

My D90 books finally arrived! Now I can start learning about all the functions of my camera to hopefully educate me on how to become a better photographer.

You can track the progress on my Flickr account.

Visual Studio 2010

So I have been using VS2010 since the RC. I am now using VS2010 Professional RTM and have to say that the product has made development easier.

Microsoft must have really paid attention to the likes of JetBrains ReSharper and DevExpress CodeRush with Refactor Pro. Some of the most used functionality that was provided by those extensibilty utilities VS2010 now offers out of the box.

If you are a serious coder tho, you will still be sticking to these tools as they offer far more capabilities than what VS2010 contains.

I have found some issues with the WPF interface that just requires the good old minimize-maximise fix to restore the UI sections that need to be redrawn. My biggest annoyance is in References. In VS2008 and earlier adding a reference was a simple task and the list was presented for you to find the assembly and add. With VS2010 this process is the same but the list only contains x amount of assemblies and you have to wait for this list to be rebuilt every time you add a reference! This has really made me appreciate the recent tab on this dialog!

I attended a session with Andrew Parsons from Microsoft and he showed some interesting capabilities of the new product and I will have to check out the VS2010 tip blog once I find that url.

How are you finding using VS2010 in your daily environment?

What I Use - March 2010

This is the current software that I use. I will divide this into Personal & Work sections to separate what I have personally paid for and what my work provides (or I install on the provided resource)

Due to not updating my blog from several years ago, I have decided to open a new one. I will try to keep this blog about technology but every now and then something else may just creep into it!

I current have several RSS feeds into my RSS Bandit and may list some of the more important ones that I follow here
